Understanding Microneedling With Radiofrequency

One of the primary causes of skin aging is declining collagen production. Starting in your 20s, your skin’s collagen production declines by about 1% each year. As a result, the skin starts to become thinner and more prone to wrinkling and sagging. While sun exposure, environmental toxins and your health can contribute to declining collagen levels, this process is a normal and inevitable part of growing older.

Collagen induction therapy, also known as microneedling, was designed to reverse common signs of aging by encouraging the skin to produce more collagen. Using a handheld device equipped with tiny needles, this treatment gently punctures the top layer of the skin, triggering the body’s natural healing response to stimulate the production of new tissue and collagen. The result is smoother, tighter and brighter skin.

Most forms of microneedling involve simple handheld devices with small needles. In some cases, topicals or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) are used as well to enhance the efficacy of treatment. It is the first to combine monopolar and bipolar radiofrequency at 1 or 2MHz, thus creating four different treatment modes that can help address a wide range of skin issues. In addition, the device comes with ten different microneedling tips and needle alignment options to allow treatment anywhere on the body, any time of the year.

This device’s tips include semi-insulated needles for greater coverage or insulated needles for deep treatment. Additionally, it offers the Fusion Tip with a specialized chamber to deliver 67% more active ingredients deep into the skin. It also offers its unique Tiger Tip with up to 49 semi-insulated needles to treat large areas of skin in a single treatment.

How Does POTENZA™ Work?

The POTENZA™ system features two handpieces, a range of single-use tips and an RF machine. Regardless of which mode or tips are being used, they all involve penetrating the skin with the microneedles and simultaneously delivering RF energy deep into the skin. The microneedles create small channels in the skin that will trigger a healing process that leads to greater collagen levels. The RF energy, however, causes thermal injury deep within the skin for an added collagen boost at depths that offer enhanced skin tightening.

The device’s unique Tiger Tip technology uses semi-insulated needles with four different RF modes to treat more tissue at multiple depths. Its one-of-a-kind Fusion Tip enhances the penetration of the top layers of skin, maximizing your results. The combination of ultrafine needles and heat applied to the targeted area means you’ll see tighter, firmer-looking skin faster with a healing time shorter than traditional microneedling.

Am I a Candidate for POTENZA™?

POTENZA™ is a versatile treatment that is suitable for all skin types. It can also target different skin concerns and be used anywhere on the body at any time of the year. This means that almost anyone can be a candidate for this treatment. If you have any of the following concerns, you can probably benefit from getting POTENZA™ microneedling:

• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Enlarged pores
• Acne scars
• Mild skin laxity

• Stretch marks

However, this treatment may not be safe for those with a pacemaker and metal implants. Additionally, this treatment is not recommended for those with active skin infections, who are pregnant or breastfeeding, who have a history of keloid scars or who suffer from bleeding disorders.

The POTENZA™ Experience

Treatment with POTENZA™ is performed in the office and requires very little preparation. Recovery is typically quick with no downtime needed, and the results are visible within weeks.

How to Prepare for Treatment

To prepare for treatment, patients are told to do the following:

• Stay well-hydrated in the days leading up to your microneedling appointment by drinking eight cups of water daily. Hydrated skin tends to respond better to treatment.
• Around seven days before treatment, avoid skincare and therapies that may irritate the skin. Examples include retinoids, exfoliating ingredients, skin peels and tanning.
• Avoid drinking alcohol the day before your treatment.
• Avoid shaving the treatment area on the day of your appointment since shaving can irritate the skin.

If you have a history of cold sores, take antiviral medications as directed at least one week prior to treatment.

What to Expect During Treatment

Prior to your treatment, our team will numb your skin with a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. The ultrafine needles and RF energy are applied directly to the target area to penetrate the top layer of your skin and trigger the body’s natural healing process to generate new collagen and elastin. The number of passes and depth of your treatment varies based on your personal skincare needs and concerns.

POTENZA™ Recovery and Results

You will see tighter, firmer-looking skin and faded blemishes for a smoother, more radiant complexion. Your skin’s collagen and elastin production will increase over the next 4-6 weeks, with optimal results appearing 12 weeks after the last treatment.
