What Is Upneeq?
Upneeq® (oxymetazoline hydrochloride ophthalmic solution 0.1%) is the first and only FDA-approved prescription eyedrop for acquired blepharoptosis (droopy eyelids) in adults. It works by stimulating the Müller’s muscle—a small muscle in the upper eyelid responsible for lifting the lid—causing a subtle but visible elevation that lasts for hours.
Unlike surgical eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty), Upneeq requires no incisions, no recovery time and no significant financial investment. Just one drop per eye can produce a noticeable lifting effect, helping your eyes look more open and alert throughout the day.
How Does Upneeq Work?
Upneeq contains oxymetazoline hydrochloride, a selective alpha-adrenergic agonist. When applied to the eye, it activates receptors in the Müller’s muscle of the upper eyelid, causing it to contract and lift the lid. The result is an average eyelid lift of 1 millimeter or more, which may sound subtle but often makes a significant difference in your appearance, especially in photos or when engaging face-to-face.
The effects of Upneeq are temporary, lasting six to eight hours with each application. It’s typically used once a day and can be integrated into your morning routine or applied before an important event.
